Carbonsynk awarded and Kyoto conference showcase for its enhanced-rock-weathering carbon-credit platform
Climate-technology venture Carbonsynk has secured the Grand Prize at the 2025 World Student Pitch (WSP) Singapore Climate Tech Innovation Challenge, receiving S$2,500 in cash and an invitation to present at Kyoto’s leading start-up conference later this year.
Formed by researchers from Nanyang Technological University and the National University of Singapore, Carbonsynk is developing Southeast Asia’s first enhanced-rock-weathering (ERW) carbon-credit project developer. The company spreads finely ground silicate rock on cropland to accelerate natural chemical weathering, durably sequestering atmospheric CO₂ while improving soil health. The resulting credits are intended to meet the highest monitoring, reporting and verification standards for nature-based carbon removal.
Carbonsynk’s core team comprises Zhang Yiwen, Zhaofeng Ouyang, Zhengxin (Reno) He and Yixin Huang. With the new backing, the start-up plans to expand pilot deployments, refine life-cycle and techno-economic models, and build strategic alliances with agricultural producers and mineral-resource suppliers.
